  • Today's visit was bizarre. My technician was Kim - and she was nice, even made a cup of coffee. ...her process was completely different than anyone else I've ever had give me a gel manicure - so I thought she was new. Through our (limited) conversation, I discovered that she's been doing nails for more than twenty years, but had only been at this salon for a year. She had me actually soak all of my nails in container of acetone (which freaked me right out, as I already have extremely dry skin). When she applied the cotton to my nails, she would squirt acetone all over the place to soak the cotton, and would even take some of the cotton to wipe up the table, then put it on my nails with the little clamps. Even her process for the cotton changed midway. I asked for short and square. I type a lot, and don't like for my nails to be long enough to hit the keys - she kept suggesting I keep 'just a little long', and I explained that they get in the way. Three of my nails are a decent length. The rest are too long, and they are all shaped differently than the one next to it. My right thumb is completely rounded with the perfect length, while my left thumb is square(ish) and longer. There are snags and bits of gel underneath that catch on things, it doesn't feel like an experienced technician did them. Applying the gel was peculiar, too. Typically, you'll have gel applied to one hand, and then the other while the first hand is under the lights, sealing. Not this time around. She would do one NAIL, and have me put my hand under the light while she painted one nail on the other hand. We proceeded in this fashion for the entire experience. She said with some gel colors, the color will 'shrink' down the nail, so she has to do one at a time. Whoa. This salon is right across the street from our new house, and I've had a couple of good experiences here, so I'll be back; but I'll be sure to ask for Ricky, Dustin, Amanda or May.
