Because it's a little off the beaten path, I don't use T&T as my staple grocery store. What this means is that, between visits, I build up a craving for certain T&T products and then GO WILD when I hit Cherry Street.
"Oh, I'm just popping in for a bag of frozen edamame" turns into a multi-bag cart-out-to-the-car shopping spree.
Piped music (so I can feel like I'm in a shopping music video), a good staff:shopper ratio, and gems in every aisle: a wide range of frozen dumplings, rice crackers, Asian sweet-and-salty snacks, toaster-friendly scallion pancakes (!!!yes!!!), custards, juices, hot sauces and other condiments. Thanks to T&T I discovered: there's more to life than sriracha!
I would be deserving of demerit Yelp points if I didn't mention the amazing prepared foods section and bakery. Soft spongey cakes (they do custom), breads, and a hot/deli section with a wide range of dimsum. Hit this section towards close and you get some better-than-great cheap deals. Trying to be wallet-friendly? It's a great pre-Sound Academy concert dinner (you're welcome, frugal Yelpers!).
Yelp note: check out the T&T site online; weekly specials are regularly posted in advance there.
