I had visited the Hollywood for the first time on Saturday. This has been on my to do list for several years whenever I'm in the PGH area, but unfortunately could never make it.
Made a special trip Saturday for the John Carpenter film festival. The Hollywood is located in the heart of Dormont with one th of shopping & restaurants within walking distance.
Open since 1926 this one screen theater with a balcony reminded me of theaters I had grown up in. They show diverse programming (older horror, silent films with a pipe organ, breakfast & a movie etc) which is great for a community art house theater.
Unfortunately Saturday's event was the last as new owners are taking over. From my understanding new owners will be showing blockbuster driven films vs the art house and niche films that fans of the Hollywood love. This loss to the community would be like Columbus, OH losing the Gateway Film Center. This is part of why I made the 3 hour drive Saturday, to experience the Hollywood I had always heard about.
