The trick is this; they test a strip of your carpet w/ carpet cleaner (with a strong chemical treatment) and it comes out fairly clean, as it should when applying standard cleaning chemicals. Then the guy mentions that to use this "treatment' it will cost bundles more. And I mean bundles, which doesn't make much sense if you want to justify the cost. He then leaves the strip that is fairly clean smack in the middle of your carpet and then cleans the rest of your carpet with (I can't prove it but what seems like) just hot water, heck maybe even cold or warm water. I had to literally rent a carpet cleaner at Lowe's which was hella cheap in comparison, then use their treatment and small machine and my carpets came out clean, fresh and wonderful. Watch out for these types of companies, the service can just be terrible.
