| - Just got back from Vegas this weekend. And had to share this. You have probably heard about the crowds at Sirens of TI. Here is a first hand account of how bad they can be. I had no idea the show had changed since my last visit so I decided to check it out. If it had not been for the entertainment provided by the crowd, I would want that one hour of my life back!
OK. So I am standing in the second row (slightly raised above the sidewalk) behind the ropes waiting for the 8.30 pm show. There is a family (husband henceforth referred to as rude guy, wife henceforth referred to as rude woman and two kids) standing next to me. The rude guy goes to get a drink and screams to his wife "Hold my spot!" The emphatic way in which he said this should have rung a warning bell, but what does a novice like me know about how desperate people are to watch this sleaze fest (wish I had known at the time it was one). He really did not have "a spot"- He was standing behind his daughter before he left. Anyway, the daughter moves away from me towards her mom giving me an illusion that there was a lot of space available. Naturally, as one does in situations like these, I move a few inches towards her (and the center). The rude woman starts pushing her daughter towards me saying "If you move away, she will take away your space". I ignore this. The rude guy comes back. He wedges himself between me and his daughter. Literally wedges.
Me: "Please stop pushing me"
Rude guy: "You are pushing my daughter. We have been here several times and we know where we were in the beginning and where we are now".
And he pushes me more. And elbows me. If I weren't shell shocked by such behavior, I would have called the cops.
I hadn't even touched the little girl, leave alone push her.
A lady standing behind us: "Guys, stop acting like you are in school"
Rude woman (couldn't bring myself to call her a lady): "Shut up. You look like you have never been to school!" accompanied by a barrage of comments bordering on profanity.
Lady behind us: "Wow!"
Show starts. For some reason, the viewing area is not blocked off during the show and passers by are trying to walk across the area. But obviously, it is too crowded and anyone who ventures into this territory is doomed to get stuck somewhere in the process. An Indian guy is stuck and decides to make the most of the moment by hoisting his son on his shoulders and staying put to watch.
A lady in front of me (she's holding a one gallon drink): "You are too close to me, Sir".
The cheeky Indian guy: "I am not exactly enjoying it either, Ma'am"
Another dad with a kid on his shoulders wants to "pass by". He gets stuck too. And is standing right in front of the lady with the drink.
The lady in front to her husband: "I can't see Sh...t" and then after a couple of minutes "I am sorry. I didn't mean to spill this drink but don't be surprised if I do"
I can barely see the show but I sure am getting some laughs.
Turns out the Indian guy is now blocking the view of the rude guy and rude woman.
The rude guy: "Excuse me sir!"
Indian guy: "I am trying to get to the other side". Doesn't look like he is trying too hard but one inch per minute is good progress in this situation.
The rude guy uses his daughter (he hoists her up) and starts pushing the Indian guy and his kid with her body!
Shocked sighs from the people behind us.
Indian guy: "Stop getting physical. Or I will stay right here".
Everyone around was more interested in watching the rude family than the show itself. You can always watch a show in Las Vegas but you don't see people like this everyday.
What about the show you ask? Meh. A big waste of an hour (or two if you arrived early). And don't bring kids along. I made the mistake of taking mine. Luckily, my daughter couldn't see anything with all the commotion in front of her. But rude guy and rude woman made sure their kids could by having them stand on the ropes. Four people watching a free show is worth more than two people watching it I guess, even if two of them need therapy in the future!
After the show, when everyone was leaving, the rude family was waiting in the viewing area. Probably to get a front row spot and see the next show at 10. I remarked to a couple of ladies next to me as I left "The show here was more entertaining than the show there, right?" and they smiled "It was! It was!".
