| - Monterey Pub we have been wanting to visit you for 4 years. We finally went on election night, November 8, 2016. We entered into a very busy establishment. The server greeted us, she was very kind. She said a wait for a table was about 20 minutes. Okay, cool, we will wait, it's election night, it's kind of a fun night, we both worked all day, I am stressed from being informed of a certain health issue, I need a distraction, looking for a good time.
I stepped up to the bar to order a wine. The bartender had a full bar, I understand, I owned two restaurants and spent 29 years working in them. The bartender approached and he brought with him unhappiness, anger, irritation, impatience and displeasure. I asked if I could order a glass of wine, he said yes we have red zinfandel, cabernet, etc. I understand the grapes. But what I want to know is who is making it? Is it "schwill"? Is it FoxHorn? Is it Rex Goliath? Is it Fish eye? If I am going to order a glass of wine I prefer it to be from a reputable wine company. Any way, I asked who made the Red Zin and he turned around all annoyed and blazed a trail of fire over to fetch the bottle. Thanks, I will have a glass of that.....I put my $3 tip back in my pocket.
My husband watched the bartender treat me with disrespect and wanted to leave this unfriendly establishment. I commented on how nice the server was and that I read great reviews on yelp, lets give it a chance.
We were seated promptly, well taken care of, food was pretty good, it's pub food.I had the Greek Flatbread Special, I am vegetarian and ate some meat! Husband had the Fried haddock and a beer, that he decided to order from the server and not from the disgruntled bartender.
Our server was working the whole restaurant, she had an assistant, she had it under control. She was kind to everyone, including us. Thankfully. It was a night out for us. We do not do it often, we just wish we were treated with kindness earlier.
To the bartender: You have no idea what your guest has just been through, I have no idea what your day was like. I hope that your night ended on a happy note, I hope you can find peace and happiness. Your job requires to put most all your problems aside and treat the guest with kindness. You know this..... I forgive you.
