| - This is a very beautiful place to live, especially if you live near the golf course, which has a nice water view. It's nice that you can walk to the UNCC campus and the Greenway. UNCC students probably don't need to buy a parking permit if they're OK with biking/walking about 2 miles or less. A lot of people around here walk to campus. The apartment complex is also in short walking distance (maybe 5 minutes or less if you are a slow walker) to the public bus stop . I love having access to the Greenway. It's a nice biking/walking/running trail where you can enjoy being outdoors without the traffic. I also love walking to the nearby restaurants, stores, and grocery store. Walking to the Boardwalk (which has a beautiful lake view) is only about a mile. I would give this place a 5 out of 5 if it were not for the tiny annoyance I am listing below.
Not all of the staff is great. There are some who are very good at what they do, and are willing to help, while others are rude and incompetent. But that's true about people in general, right? In particular, there is one person in the office who thinks it's perfectly fine to talk to people like they are dirt. I am betting you will know right off the bat who I am talking to once you meet her. I am a respectful, educated (I have a Ph.D.), and polite person, so I do not understand why she talks to my husband or me like this. I once noticed that she was very sweet, almost like another person, to a white male tenant who just signed a contract. Simply based on my observations and experiences, I find it quite unfair and strange that her demeanor to tenants varies. Mostly, I find it highly irrittating when people talk with such rudeness, as if you are a nuisance. I'm not a nuisance if I'm paying about $900 per month for rent, excluding fees. The way I see it, I am a customer and she is an office staff. There should be mutual respect.
Some of the staff are also not careful with details in general. They have confused me for other tenants on important paperwork. You have to be diligent with double checking things yourself. They send out mass notices about safety inspections a couple times per year that require people to come into your apartment, but do not list specific details such as the time frames in which these inspections are performed. They'll list the date for when inspections start, but don't give information on how long it may take for all inspections to be completed. This is important for those of us tenants who work all day, have pets, and/or are uncomfortable with people coming into our apartments. It's nice to know when when we should stop expecting strangers coming into our apartments.
Again, my comments on the staff, wordy as they are, are simply things they could improve upon. Not all the staff are like this. There are those who work very hard and are attentive to tenants. As a tenant, I would recommend you be diligent with making sure information goes through and voicing your opinion on things that could be improved upon. Also, I don't believe that these few staff members define Ashford Green apartments. To me, the apartment complex as a whole is a nice place to live in.
Despite these negative issues that I mentioned, the pros outweigh the cons for me. There really is never a situation in life where there are no cons, in my opinion. It really is a nice and beautiful place. In general, I would recommend this apartment complex to others.
