I grew up in Phoenix and have been flying in and out of PHX Sky Harbor for 25+ years. The airport has changed a lot in that time (and huge changes are currently happening in the other terminals). I love this airport. It's logically laid out and has a lot of solid food options. They've done a good job of providing outlets at all the gates and almost all of the bathrooms are updated now. Signage is clear.
Terminal 4 serves American Airlines and Southwest along with all the international flights. It's connected to economy parking and the Phoenix light rail via the SkyTrain which is conveniently connected on the same level as all the gates.
I've never had an issue with TSA here and the Pre-Check line moves quickly.
The best part about terminal 4 is that when they renovated all the eateries they put in mostly local places. Instead of just the standard Subway, pizza place and McDonalds that you see at most airports they have local eateries. They're also conveniently spread out so that you never have to go very far to find something. Make sure to check out Matt's Big Breakfast, NYPD Pizza, Modern Burger, Humble Pie, Wildflower, La Grande Orange or Sweet Republic. If you're eating outside of security I'd highly recommend Sauce!
Whether you're a local who is happy to get a chance to grab some food from one of your favorite local places as you wait or a traveler who's never left the PHX airport the food options in Phoenix are worth checking out.
