I think everyone is going to compare this place to Razzy Fresh. But everyone knows the froyo craze began in Korea then to California with PinkBerry and Red Mango. With this heritage, comes the inherited responsibility of great packaging and fabulous interior design. Both of which is where RF fails. I give RF props for being the first self serve froyo place in Pittsburgh, but Tutti Frutti has filled in all the holes RF lacks. Like its predecessors, TF began in California and has the default well designed interior (orange and pillows) and packaging (to-go tops and cute logo). It has more rotating flavors and everything is sparkly clean.
Here's where it fails:
-The original tart flavor tastes like non dairy creamer so I always go with taro or lots of toppings when I'm at TF.
-Although it's owned by the people who own many asian restaurants in Squirrel Hill (Rose Tea, New Dumpling House,..) The managers are all...white? Nothing wrong with that but as a loyal follower of this type of froyo since 2006, I don't like being told everytime I walk in if 'i know how this works, do I need assistance?'
I understand their good intentions and cultural politeness, but it (for irrational reasons) bothers me and kinda ruins my experience. I guess I kind of miss the cold stares and silence of my asian counterparts.
One perk I forgot is that they don't have minimums on credit cards!
