| - I don't know if it was fate or destiny that led me to Detox Salon and Mateo (who I believe is a hair guru, godsend). My original plan was to go somewhere else for my cut and color after I got off work at 5pm but found out at the last minute that the hairdresser went home sick. Frantic (I was leaving town in two days for a wedding and my hair was a mess), I looked on Yelp for the closest salon with great reviews, came upon Detox Salon so called them right away. They told me that they close at 7pm but might be able to squeeze me in if I showed up right away since I really only needed a root touch up and trim, so I rushed over there in less than 10 minutes. Met Mateo and told him I wanted to cover my grays but didn't want to go too dark so he told me dark chocolate would look great on me. I also told him I wanted to keep my length but since I hadn't cut my hair in over a year I really, really needed a haircut. So after looking over my hair, he got to work. We chatted a bit when he was coloring my hair and he was so down to earth and made me feel so comfortable.
Then I was put under the dryer, where I closed my eyes and relaxed until it was time for my shampoo. This is where it got heavenly; he has the best hands in the business! That was literally the BEST shampoo, head massage I have EVER had...EVER...so much that all I could think of was that I really needed to splurge and come see him once a month just for a shampoo and hair masque. Even though I could barely reach the sink (I'm 4'11) he made it work, lifting up the back of my head and massaging the back of my neck...it was so great I did not want him to stop!
After the shampoo, he got to blow drying my hair, it felt like he was blow drying it in pieces and pulling on the roots, totally different from how others had done before and it felt GREAT! Ladies sometimes a little hair pulling is actually a good thing
Then he started cutting my hair, I was so relaxed at that point that from the time I was under the dryer to shampooing my hair, then cutting, I had my eyes closed the entire time. It was only when he was completely done, did I open my eyes and put my glasses back on did I notice how gorgeous my hair looked and how healthy it felt; he took off quite a bit but still managed to keep my length too!
I have been in Vegas for 10 years and this was the first time I have left a salon completely happy with what I got. Usually, the stylist can cut hair but can't color or vice versa so I've bounced around a lot since moving from SF...not this time, I think I've finally found the ONE. Thank you Mateo, I can't wait until our next meeting!
