  • I work literally next-door as the driver manager at Wheel Deliver. For months on end it seemed like this place would never open. We listened to jackhammering and saws while visions of baguettes and cookies danced in my sweet little head! Finally, they opened, and I couldn't possibly be any happier to have a place like this in the North Squirrel Hill/Point Breeze area. Our favorite bakery in the Strip District, Dulcinea, recently closed, and now Five Points will be filling that void! So far I've had two different sandwiches and several different pastries from Five Points. About a month ago I savored a sandwich that consisted of fresh tofu and pickled veggies on a mouth-watering baguette. I'm a carnivore who never before had fresh tofu, but let me assure you I plan to eat it much more often as long as that sandwich is an option right next-door when I have a rumbly in the tumbly! Just yesterday I stopped in and tried a ham & cheese sandwich with cute little pickles on it, also served on a freshly-baked baguette, after my colleague came back to our office with a tofu sandwich and made me jealous! It was absolutely delicious! I also have consumed no fewer than a half-dozen chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter chunk cookies since they've opened, and these cookies are BIG! Five Points is nice because it's a bakery run by individuals that seem to be conscientious about the health of their clientele by offering foods that are made with high-quality and nutritious ingredients. The staff, especially Jeff, are very polite, cordial, and friendly! I'm not exactly affluent, and I've found the pricing to be quite reasonable, too. Yesterday my hearty sandwich and two very large cookies were just under $11, including tax. I pay comparable pricing for sandwiches and baked goods at the specialty deli across the street from me here in Polish Hill, which doesn't quite have the wealthy reputation that Squirrel Hill does, either, which would make one think pricing would be even more inflated. WISH-LIST: I know I'm a hypocrite for just saying I love the healthy options available in an era of processed foods dominating our refrigerators, but offering cream cheese danishes would bring me into a food orgasm! LOL! Sometimes, especially on these brutally-cold winter days, I just want comfort food that I know is bad for me!
