| - On a recent business trip, all of the hotels downtown were either sold out, or priced well over our corporate travel policy. So I had two choices: Canada's Best Value Inn and the Ramada. The Ramada had poor reviews, so I elected to stay at Canada's Best Value Inn.
In the US this chain is known as "America's Best Value Inn". This one is located in the heart of "Motel Village" in Calgary - proximate to the univeristy to Calgary and only 5 LRT stops from my office.
The good news is there are a number of restaurants in the area - Boston Pizza and McDonalds flank this hotel. Denny's is a short walk, and easily another 20+ restaurants are within a 10 minute walk.
As to the motel itself, its a 2 storey building likely built in the 70s or early 80s. The building shows its age. I had a room with three queen sized beds. Again, I had booked late and this was all that was left. One of the beds had its own bedroom. There was also a TV and Microwave for the room. There was no iron and ironing board in the room, but if you ask at the front desk, one will be provided to you.
The room was a large size. I had more than enough space to do my morning workout. The rooms were clean and bug-free. I did not partake in the free continental breakfast, as I was leaving the hotel early in the mornings.
Please bewarned -- if you're one of those people who needs to stay in a posh hotel that looks brand new, and sparkles this hotel is not for you. If you need a clean room without bugs in a safe area - this is a good choice.
The front desk staff was pretty helpful during my stay - even calling a couple of cabs for me, and giving me some suggestions for dining options in the area.
I would definitely repeat this hotel stay if I had to.
