My mom LOVES going out to breakfast and on her most recent visit to Madison, we decided to finally check out Sofra's. I had, of course, long heard of those famous Albanian sausages but for some reason had never ventured in. I'm so glad I finally did. The space is oddly comforting. There is nothing particularly nice or special about it but it just kinda feels really comfy. The tables are a little close together and a bit small as others have noted but it really somehow works.
The Turkish coffee was great. Our server was very excited for me to try it-why yes, this was my first Turkish coffee. It was served with a small piece of Turkish delight (some sort of jelly candy with peanuts). She carefully described what makes Turkish coffee Turkish and explained about how you don't drink it until the last drop. Very helpful tips!
The food was great. I had the biscuits and gravy which were fine-nothing wrong with them but not a stand out either. My mom thoroughly enjoyed one of the daily specials-the Sante Fe skillet. It featured pulled chicken (which was excellent) as well as corn, black beans and potatoes. Her only (very mild) gripe was that the jalapeƱos were pickled instead of fresh. The server said they never had fresh jalapeƱos as they don't go through enough of them. Overall she was very pleased with the dish.
And, of course, those famous Albanian sausages. They were outstanding as promised. Probably a bit too savory for me for breakfast-but absolutely made me want to come back to try their lamb burger.
Top everything off with super friendly staff which made my first visit here just delightful. I will be back indeed.
