What a rip off! The cooktop of my stove got cracked. I was much impressed that the person on the phone had all the records even though it was 15 years old. I needed to determine if it was worth the cost of replacement or whether it would make more sense to but a new stove. She couldn't give me an exact price but said it would be between $2-3 hundred. She also explained that there was a $99 service call charge but it would be deducted from the repair cost. Ok
When the tech got here he looked it up and gave me a quote of nearly $600! He said the person on the phone should never have talked price. He then began a hard sell trying to get us to but a service contract that was more than the cost of a stove. Before he would leave we had to talk to a representative for another hard sell to verify we didn't want to buy a contract.
We had to pay $99 for the service call for him to "diagnose" the problem and to give us a quote. So we paid all that for him to glance at the cooktop and say, "Yah, it's cracked." And the phone rep lied to us.
I will never ever buy anything from Sears again. As I look around the house I note that every appliance came from Sears. No more.
