I'm not a brothy soup guy, but gave one of the dumpling soups a whirl as it was recommended. It was loaded with flavor and the rice noodles were fresh along with the dumplings. My companion had a standard Noodle bowl with marinated beef and spring rolls. It was also above average made with fresh vegetables and meat.
The environment is dated and feels a tad dirty. The place could use an upgrade, however like most Squirrel Hill locations it's part of the restaurants character.
Service was fast and the prices on par with Pho in a Midwestern city. If I were passing by and in the mood for Pho, I'd stop again. I wouldn't make a special trip for the sole purpose of visiting Tan Lac Vien.
