There are three Starbucks and a Tim Hortons within walking distance of my house. Out of a sense of eco-conciousness I rarely go further afield for a hot beverage, meaning that I rarely drink good coffee. But I found myself downtown twice during work hours this week and both times I stopped in at deVille for coffee. Sure, they have a Nutella latte (good in theory but really the Nutella just anchors itself at the bottom of the cup), but the real treat here is the Intelligentsia coffee which just Tastes Good. At 8:00 in the morning the place is packed and you'll be looking at a wait of fifteen minutes or so, but later in the day you can be in and out in five. I noticed a lot of people eating salads around lunch time, and their salads and soups did look good, though I thought it was kind of gross that yesterday (February 15th) they had a big tub of salsa on the counter that was labeled in HUGE letters with "FEB 2 - NEEDS CILANTRO AND LIME JUICE." That salsa was made two weeks ago without the lime juice (which would have some acid that would provide some preservative qualities) and was still being served? I hope in the future their condiments will be as fresh as their coffee!
