| - Butter Baker is a minuscule shop nestled between the mammoth size of its neighbours, Pablo and Chatime. If you have a poor sense of direction, you may want to use these two as landmarks. The interior design is clean and cute, with whites and yellows making up the main colour palette. There is a lack of square footage, however. As such, you won't be going here to dine-in. It's constructed for grab and go purchases, and I heavily recommend to go in small groups, as it seems impossible to fit more than 5-6 people in the shop. On the bright side, I love the use of potted plants to create an illusion of a larger, less congested space - a refreshing idea, I must say!
My small crew of three came here at around 7pm on a Wednesday night. There was no shortage of pastries and cakes left. Therefore, if you're in a pinch for buying desserts for a party in the evening, I heavily recommend stopping here as you'll get great value for quantity, quality, and variety.
We ordered a slice of matchamisu, the hybrid child of a green tea cake and tiramisu. Even though we ordered it in the evening, we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh it still tasted. It was moist, well-sized for sharing, and had a mellow green tea flavour that would appeal to diners who prefer bitter green tea notes and diners who prefer lighter ones. The matchamisu seems to be a fail-safe option.
The bag you get for your purchases is large, durable and simple yet cute. Remember to avoid throwing it away and instead re-use it for future gift-giving!
Overall, there are several ups and downs with Butter Baker as listed below, but it's definitely worth your attention when you're craving something sweet to go with your coffee or meal.
