| - We came here for dinner with a party of 5. I had requested a table with a view and they delivered by seating us next to a window (they also have tables outside on the balcony but it's summertime in Phoenix so no thanks). You can't see the sunset from this side of the building, but at night, the city lights are gorgeous.
The dining room has a little bit of a retro 60s flavor with the banquettes and layout, but the furniture and decor are very current. Bathrooms were also spotless (nobody ever mentions this in restaurant reviews but I always find this information useful).
Our waiter started off by explaining that the restaurant was named for Jean Georges Vongerichten, "a famous chef in NYC." Hmm. If you have to explain that someone is famous... well, enough said. We were aware of the man behind the name "JG" before we made our reservation, but primarily because we know him as the husband of Marja from the Kimchi Chronicles. Go PBS!
Service was overall fantastic. Friendly, but not too casual.
Highlights from the meal included the tuna tartare (wow!), crab cake (chock full of crab and the peas were dynamite), black truffle cheese fritters (apparently truffle can make even fried cheese classy), veal, salmon, and the peppercorn steak.
Desserts were tasty but very standard steakhouse fare - carrot cake, ice cream sundae, warm chocolate cake. No surprises here.
Honestly I would've probably chosen 4 1/2 stars but since yelp only allows you to assign "whole" stars I think it was more fair to round up rather than down.
It's a steakhouse, but I feel like the most interesting items on the menu were not traditional steakhouse fare.
I would totally come back. Especially if someone else was buying.
