Terrace is one of my favorite brunch spots in Charlotte. They are ALWAYS busy, but parties of two are generally seated within 20 minutes at peak brunch time on the weekends.
The actual location/decor is nothing of note. The Ballantyne location is in a shopping mall filled with families; lots of action going on. I've never eaten inside. The interior isn't particularly nice and it's relatively loud. The patio is also busy but feels calmer.
Their waitstaff is extraordinarily friendly. They've forgotten a few things in the 4 times I've dined here, but they are always apologetic and come around frequently to refresh water and whatnot.
Now the food: there is a fabulously wide selection for brunch. They have many traditional dishes as well as inventive ones. Their lemon poppyseed French toast is simply divine. Their egg dishes have been mixed but overall good. Any sweet food you order is going to be delicious. I had coffee cake straight out of the over - UNreal.
As a vegetarian, I am THRILLED that they have "fake chicken" AKA seitan on the menu. Their vegan chicken & waffles is fabulous. I recently ordered a skillet that had sausage in it that was happily swapped for the seitan. That means a lot to me, especially in Charlotte.
My only complaint is the price. It's REALLY hard to justify a standard-size, standard-ingredient skillet being $16. 16!! It was a special, but as I said, none of the ingredients were particularly rare or unique. But, I like the food, so I pay for it. But be aware before going that this is not a cheap brunch venue.
