  • Disappointed. We got there a little before 6pm as my 2 year old daughter couldn't stop throwing up for a couple hours, nor keep any liquids down. Although I wanted to bring her to an Urgent Care (hospital visits are costly) they urged me to go to the nearest hospital as that Urgent Care didn't have IV to treat any dehydration. There was no one else in the waiting room when we got there, so I estimated to be there a couple hours. After during the normal checks (temperature, weight) we were left to wait with a barf bag for her. They gave her the first dose of Zofran to try and settle her stomach but it didn't work as she couldn't keep liquid down shortly after and still threw up. Fast forward to 8:30pm (they did a shift change and I guess that makes them move a lot slower) we finally get the new dr to give her a second dose, and they wanted to see how that one helped. So she took that, and she was able to drink at 9pm and keep that down. 10:00pm rolls around, were still waiting, no one coming in to check on her, one nurse peaked her head in, I said "she was able to take her second dose and drink some water, she gagged a little but barely." 11:00pm rolls around and I'm wondering what's taking so damn long. I go to the desk and ask for an update. They clearly have had their breaks (while I haven't ate dinner and I'm 6 months pregnant) so they're in good mood, drinking their In N Out drinks. I asked for an update, I said "the last I heard, the Dr said if she couldn't keep the second dose down with liquids, we'd have to send her to the Sienna on St Rose for further evaluation..at this point we've been sitting and waiting and would like to know whether we can go home or if we need to go to the other hospital." This younger nurse (didn't see a name but there was 2 of them and she was the one WITHOUT glasses and a lot more makeup) replied, "Well, how do YOU think she's doing? Every time I come in there you tell me she still threw up." I replied (already appalled) "that was over an hour and a half ago and she didn't throw up, she gagged....you guys are the professionals shouldn't you have an answer to that instead of me?" Then she rudely replied "The doctor will come and speak to you." To cut this short even after that, the dr didn't come in for a good 45 mins to an hour, as we left shortly after midnight. We were there for 6 HOURS!!! I know an ER could be lengthy but for the lack of treatment we got I think it is horrible. Not to mention, that "nurse" should make an effort to show a little more sympathy to a worried parent, as I expect ANYONE in health care! If I knew how "well" my daughter was doing and could decipher decisions on her medical condition, why would I bother spending $300 for 6 hours in the ER? This is not to take any blow at the other staff on duty, like the person that checked us out, or the tech that took her weight as most of them were helpful. But it only takes one person to ruin an image.
