| - A friendly little spot for a relaxed, Saturday night drink.
I was a little concerned when I stepped in because it was pretty dead at midnight on a Saturday. There were maybe 4 other people in the bar, all sitting on the bar. I was worried that they wouldn't stay open until 2:00am. Fortunately, the fears were unfounded.
The bartender was super friendly and even asked us for requests for their jukebox (the new, digital jukeboxes. Not the old, Fonz-type jukebox). The music was a bit loud, but the drinks were great (Strongbow on tap!), decently priced and the service was fantastic. Some people slack when it's dead, but she kept coming over to see if we needed anything. We never had to wait for a drink.
Bonus points: they have a collection of board games and magazines, which were perfect since I had to wait a bit for the Hubster to arrive.
Funny story: Years ago, there was a restaurant in this same location. I got to know the owner a bit, and she offered to hang one of my paintings with the agreement that I could put my details on it so if someone wanted to buy it, they could call me. I would call every couple of months to check in. One time I called, the number was disconnected. I went to the place to find that the business had changed hands, and the new owner said that HE owned the painting now, despite the fact that my info was on it and I wasn't notified. The original owner was nowhere to be found.
We went back and forth for a while, then the new owner disappeared as well. I went to the place and tracked down the landlord, who told me that the owner fled the country and still owed him rent. Thankfully, the painting was still there (albeit with a NAIL through it.. grr) and I got it back.
So when I asked the Hubster to meet me there, I just said "The bar that used to be the restaurant that stole my painting."
