| - Over-the-top surreal and beautiful, if extremely crowded at Christmastime. I've stayed here twice now and enjoyed both visits, although next time I may choose someplace smaller, less crowded and more personal. Our check-in clerk was very personable, but after that we were just cattle in the herd for three days.
The rooms are elegant, clean and comfortable. My favorite thing about them is the oversized bathtub. Be warned that it's a very long walk from your room to anywhere. The pools and hot tub are lovely; however, they close at 4 p.m. The Bellagio fountains are delightful, but less frequent than they were last time I visited -- it's now one song every 15 minutes. Also, the fountain shows are canceled if it's windy.
Cirque du Soleil's "O" was excellent, if ridiculously expensive at $180 each for average seats. Everything here is extremely overpriced: $20 for a mediocre fast food burger and stale french fries at Snacks; $15 for a cappuccino and pastry at Palio; $20 for a glass of champagne or cocktail at Lily Lounge; $50 for a holiday dinner at the buffet. I don't recall things being nearly this expensive when I last visited Vegas in December 2008, when the town was seriously hurting from the recession.
As other reviews and our check-in clerk mentioned, the minibar items are on sensors, and just moving them will result in charges. They do look tempting, but I recommend making a first stop at the huge, 24-hour Walgreen's across the street (just to the right of the Miracle Mile Shops) to stock up on munchies, booze and tacky Vegas souvenirs.
