| - Wow. I have been going to my regular hairdresser for about the past 7-8 years back in Calgary. However, since I now live in Toronto, I knew I wouldn't be able to get by with semi-annual cuts. I was looking for a new place and a friend recommended Aveda.
I went in simply for a cut. I booked with the most inexperienced level you could (the academy's students). When I arrived, I was kindly greeted and immediately looked after. I went upstairs where the students do their work (main level is for the 'actual' stylists, I'm asumming) and waited for my haircutter. She (Tammy) brought me over, discussed what I wanted, asked if I had a picture, etc. Afterwards, the advisor (actual stylist) came over to discuss with the student to make sure I was ok with what we discussed and gave some advice based on my hair. After, what followed was a regular cut, and once finished, the advisor came back to ensure I didn't need any touching up and that I was satisfied with what the student had done. It was honestly probably the best hair cut I have had yet. People have mentioned that it takes longer to get it done by a student, and while that is true, my haircut from me walking in to me leaving took 70 minutes. My normal time with my old hairdresser is about 50-60 and she has worked with me a lot and knows my hair well. So, given the circumstances, 70 is completely acceptable.
The best part of this place is the price! My cut was $28+tax, and there was no option to leave a tip (which I definitely would have!!). Given that other places close to me cost between 45-75 for a simple cut, I really can't complain.
For the record, I went in with hair that hadn't been cut for 5 months and I wanted a very good healthy trim (about 1.5 inches off) and full fringe (I had very, very long side-swept bands). So I was looking for a chance, but not a drastic one. I have thin hair that lacks volume and is difficult to hold a style. My hair looks healthy, shiny, bouncy, and I already know it's going to work for me and my lifestyle. I walked out with confidence and felt great about going here. Would 100% recommend and I will be going back.
