I havent been to Leopolds in 5 yrs. - because 5 yrs ago i got married and we got our wedding cake from Leopolds.
My husband and i had a very small, intimate wedding - about 15-20 immediate family and 3 close friends. We decided on Leopolds because i knew the daughter of one of the bakers and had worked close by for 6 yrs and had stopped in for treats after work every now and then.
We ordered a simple cake - 10" base tier made of white cake with bravarian cream and strawberries and a 8" top tier all chocolate. We wanted white buttercream on the outside with a simple brown ribbon around the bottom of each tier and one medium size white bloom right in the middle. A fairly easy cake design and flavors from all the options we were given. We ordered our cake 6 weeks before we needed it.
(We had been together for 8 yrs at that time and decided to invite family and friends to a vacation rental for an 'engagment party' without them knowing we were actually getting married that same day.)
A small, fast, private, informal wedding
Our cake came to a more than resonable price of $138 and we were told it would definately be ready for us to pick up the day before needed as it wasnt a difficult cake.
So 6 weeks goes by and the day before my wedding my husband and i go to pick up the cake. When we walked in and asked for it, the ladies had no idea what we were talking about!! And i had to show them pictures of my idea i had shared with them weeks before, remind them of our conversation and show my receipt. And one of the ladies was like 'oh! Ok. Hang tight. It'll jus be a few mins.' Ok. No problem. So we sat and waited. And waited. And waited. After almost an hr, one of the ladies came out from the back and i asked what was taking so long and she said 'oh, shes almost done frosting it then she just has to do your flower'.
Uhhhhh, what?! I gave these chicks my order weeks ago and PAID and they didnt make my cake! Pretty upsetting and unsettling!
While it looked messy and just thrown together, it tasted good.
