| - I both love and mildly disdain this place. I'm torn between giving it 3 and 4 stars.
Basic cocktails are good (that is, martinis, g&t's, etc). The beer selection is quite good (a nice, if smallish, selection of beers on tap and a huge fridge with just about any beer you could want).
The atmosphere is fantastic. It rarely seems too loud or too cramped no matter how crowded it is, and they sometimes project movies on one wall. I went with a group of friends once and found them projecting some old Japanese monster movies on the wall. It made our night. The room is pleasantly dark, and there's a good sized seating area by the entrance and a somewhat livelier area by the front of the bar.
However, the place gets hectic, and it can take absolutely forever to get a drink on busier nights (and by forever, I mean it's taken the better part of an hour before). Also, it is literally in a basement. This means no cell phone service for some people (none for me on Verizon), so solidify any plans with friends before you enter, or better yet, meet your friends outside.
If you get a beer from the fridge, heed the signs and do not open it yourself. Take it to the bar and have the bartender open it and pour it into a glass for you (this is also when you pay for said beer). I witnessed a bartender asking a patron to leave for violating this rule once.
If you want a nice, relaxing drink, I would avoid this place on weekends. The crowd is more manageable on weeknights, though. The place gets hectic on weekends, and again, unless you sit at the bar, don't be surprised if you have to wait a while to be served on a Friday night. It's also not the cheapest place in the world.
