| - I've gone to the Spanish Centre for lessons for several years, off and on. First, I completed Basico 1 in 2008 (and fell in love with the school), and in late 2010, I started again at the beginning and went all the way to Intermedio 4. This September, I've decided to repeat all intermediate courses to gain a better foot-hold on conversation.
This cool little school is super-dedicated to all things Spanish, and the teachers take their job very seriously. There's lots of homework and loads of vocuabulary and grammar to remember week after week, so you get out of these courses what you put into them, no question.
I've had several teachers and I like each of them for different reasons. In my opinion, Javier, the director of the school, is the best teacher there hands-down because of his alternative approach to teaching. He's intense, but his method veers away from pure theory ( ie "the direct object pronoun is placed in front of the conjugated verb" - shudder) and takes a more organic approach which leaves you more comfortable / less shy speaking the language.
The admin staff is very friendly, organized and helpful. There is a book store on the ground floor which offers all things Spanish (dictionaries, fiction, CDs, DVDs, etc), and they also offer Spanish dance courses. In addition, there are workshops and discussion groups (for students), all of which are designed to further conversational Spanish.
