| - The Regent was OK, I guess, as far as apartments go. I lived with two other people, but the rent was still at least ~$539 a month. I suppose that's what you get for decent real estate space in Madison, though.
The Good:
+ Front Desk staff are generally friendly once you get to know them
+ Very nice work out room
+ No utility (except a ~$15 water fee a month) and air conditioning included
+ Public areas with pool table, comfy chairs, and a flatscreen TV
+ Close to campus and some other decent restaurants (Nam's Noodle, Rocky Rococo's, Mickie's Dairy Bar, etc.)
+ The one and two-bedroom apartments have been recently renovated
The Bad:
- The front desk staff generally have no idea what they're doing, so it's better to ask the property manager if he's around--Jesse is generally a lot friendlier and helpful than the other staff if he's still around.
- Even with the utilities paid for, that's still a crapton of money for one month with three other people
- The three-bedroom apartments are dumps: the ovens are out of the 1960's, the fridges are small, the kitchens are claustrophobic. Our kitchen counter's plastic top was wearing off too. There was mold on our bathroom ceiling because there's no fans installed to remove some of the moisture from showering.
- Maintenance HAS to be bothered more than once to show up.
- They remove the air conditioning sometime in November, so you'll have to get a fan to cool down if you're on the upper floors (I was on the 7th) if it gets too hot.
The other reviewer mentioned something about free breakfast--but I didn't get this last year when I lived there so maybe that's one thing Steve Brown Apts. cut out to save some money.
It wasn't the worst experience I've had with an apartment complex, but I know I can have better. The Regent is a little too expensive for me and I can't justify shelling out ~$700/month for my own place when I can get it for a lot cheaper with other places.
