Where else can you get Southern cuisine in Vegas and live entertainment? If that's what you're looking for then look no further. BB King's Blues Club is here to the rescue. I needed a break from Carnegie Deli and I needed to get something fairly quick. My experience here first started off bumpy. We were told there was a 30 minute wait but we could sit and eat at the bar if we didn't want to wait. As I took my seat at the bar, I noticed an entire section of the place completely empty. I'm assuming they were short staffed. My main concern was the business we were potentially taking away from the bar since we weren't drinking. Fortunately, our bartender/waitress appeased our worries and said her main concern was to make sure we had the best experience there that night. Insert sigh of relief.
I always order the same thing when I go to any sort of Southern cuisine establishment. Fried catfish! I ordered the Southern Fried Catfish Dinner which consisted of a few of their fried catfish fillets breaded in their house cornmeal, fries, hushpuppies and coleslaw. The hushpuppies were definitely a hit. It wasn't heavily breaded and it was so soft inside. I haven't had many hushpuppies mind you but this place easily tops my list. The coleslaw was satisfactory but I liked that it wasn't completely drenched in mayonnaise. It was very light as a side should be.
The catfish fillets were super juicy and thick. Surprisingly, the breading was so soft it just all easily fell off from the fish. It was better that way because I didn't want to walk back to work feeling all heavy and nasty. I had to fight myself from finishing the catfish because I wanted to keep some of it to snack on later.
Overall, the meal was decent but it wasn't something I was blown away by. The portions are more than generous and can easily be shared between two small-average stomachs. Our bartender/waitress was on the go the entire time. It was like she was running the entire restaurant. Even then she took the time to chat with us with a smile on her face. There's a $5.00 cover charge when the live band was playing. I was ready to blow a fuse when I thought we were going to be charged the $5.00 because the band went on break for the majority of our meal. Good thing we weren't charged!
