| - Yes, this hotel could be nicer... but why bother?!?
The hotel itself is outdated and not the cleanest with finger prints on the room and bathroom doors, and ripped and old carpeting etc. Besides that our room was very large and accommodating, the staff were all super friendly and helpful and the hotel seems to have everything you need for a pleasant hotel stay. That said, I don't believe it's possible to have a pleasant hotel stay in Cleveland. The city is a complete toilet filled with crime, corruption and drugs. The hotel is not in a bad place, there is just no "good" place.
My husband, myself and our 10 lb dog stayed here on our journey cross country. We chose the hotel because of its pet-friendliness and price. The only other pet-friendly hotel in Cleveland was the Ritz, which was twice the rate. This was a little surprising to us as most other cities on our journey had plenty of pet-friendly options. We realized later that evening that Cleveland is not at all a pet, or dog, friendly city. We concluded this is because of the feral dog (pit bull and bullmastiff) packs running around Cleveland on the hunt. What is that about?? Google it, it's scary craziness!
We spent all of 12 hours in Cleveland and saw countless drug addicts, homeless people, drug deals, and even a cop almost busting a drug deal until she decided to get back in her cop car and ignore what was obviously illegal behavior. The city is unsafe and in major trouble. I would think twice about ever going there. From the moment we got there, we felt unsafe.
So yes, the Residence Inn could use some updating, but why would anyone put money into a tourist hotel in such a dump of a city? If you do find yourself having to pass through this hell hole, with a pet, the sheets were clean, the staff was great, and they even have a small market in the lobby stocked with essentials, such as wine to take the scary edge off!
