| - Sam recently installed 30 spot lights, 2 fireplace rope lights and 2 courtyard string lights in our yards. He is reliable like other Yelp reviewers have pointed out. For those who likes to do business search online, Desert Landscape Lighting's business is registered under the trade name Desert Outdoor Lighting (File ID 613235). I talked to 5 companies that does the high-end landscape lighting, and decided to work with Sam in the end. Both my wife and myself are satisfied with his work and are happy with our decision.
I will list out some of the things you may want to consider before you call him.
You may want Sam to work on your landscape lighting project if:
1. You don't want to deal with bad quality stuff - Sam is the owner of the company. This means he cares about his reputation and the customer satisfactions. Unlike some of the landscape companies, He will be there on site and get the works done with another helper. He does not subcontract the lighting project.
2. You have some "not so straightforward" ideas on your landscape lighting - Our courtyard lighting was a bit challenging due to its location and the power source issue. Out of the 5 companies I called, Sam is the only one I would trust with my courtyard lighting. I don't want to work with someone who will "do the best he can", but someone who will do it right with no exception. I knew Sam is the right guy and he did not disappoint us.
3. You are technical - You want every aspect, every single little details about your landscape lighting project. Only two companies out of the five can deliver this level of knowledge without making things up (watts, light source output, exact spec. on transformers. etc).
4. You don't want to spend extra money on a landscape designer - Sam has been doing outdoor lighting for a long time. He will pretty much tell you what will work and what won't. I did not get a designer to do the 3D design like some other companies suggested. I basically went with what he had in mind and drew his plan on paper for HOA purposes. It turns out great.
5. You want a real light demo - After Sam knew that we were serious about the lighting project, he came out and gave us a light demo. Three out of the five companies I talked to won't even do that....and they claim they are the "high-end" landscape lighting companies.
You may not want Sam to work on your landscape lighting project if:
1. You are in a rush to get your lighting project done - This is not saying Sam is slow, but he will take his time to make sure things are done right.
2. You want the lowest cost and cheapest possible - This company came in second on the price chart, meaning three other companies are cheaper than Sam's quote. Note that those three other companies are landscaping companies. They are not specialized in landscape lighting (but just to be fair, that doesn't mean they won't do a good job).
3. You want to have multiple landscape projects done at the same time - Again, Sam is specialized in landscape lighting only. He does not deal with other landscape works such as adding pavers, relocating tree, or adding boulders etc. In fact, I was hoping to add paver stairs and add a few boulders at the same time, but Sam won't coordinate with another company on a joint project due to the quality control issue. I am very particular when it comes to quality, so we still decided to work with Sam, but that's just me.
Last but not least, I want to thank all other Yelp reviewers who provided reviews on this guy. I could not find much information elsewhere about this company. Landscape lighting projects are not cheap, so I want do it right the first time. I was able to make a good decision with you guys' help. Cheers.
