We had a good time at the zoo which isn't hard to do with a curious 2 year old.
Pros: The zoo's employees were very courteous. The zoo isn't crowded. The are many trees that provide shady areas. The park is part of an organization to protect endangered species.
Cons: For the cost of admission and then paying for all the extras we could have gone to an amusement park. $34 entry fee + $2 boat ride + $2.50 carousel + $5 safari ride. Fortunately (unfortunately for the kids) the train $5, the sky ride $5 and the log flume $6 were not operable. Add it all up and you are looking at $60 per adult.
It appeared to us that 50% of the zoo's population was made up by birds.
There are definitely two versions of the zoo. The old run down section and the new section. The old section has cages that are very difficult for children to see through, wobbly and broken decking, the boat ride water is stagnate and smells to high heaven, and the buildings have seen better days. The new section has great viewing areas and the safari ride is top notch. Kids swarmed to feed the giraffes.
The addition of misters in sections of the park would really help. The bathrooms only have hand dryers so if your child spills or falls you are at a loss trying to clean up the little one. Small platforms could be added so that little kids could see over the log fencing and into the enclosures.
