| - * A preamble rant: I have a rule - never go to a restaurant that is less than 2 months old. too many bad experiences, and there are so many kinks to work out. and every time i break this rule, i remind myself that i really need to obey my rules more. having just opened a month ago, Krazy Fish is still experiencing some growing pains. Today, they were still in the process of installing computers/registers, our itemized receipts were handwritten on blank receipt paper. The server we had, while very nice and friendly, was brand new and it showed - drink mix ups, had to reconfirm order a couple times. no serious detriments in time or service, but small annoyances that are specific to new restaurants. thats why i have rules.
All that aside...
the food is fantastic, a blend of mexican, asian, and seafood fusion. they have tacos and bolillos, pho and pad thai, among many other choices, and most come with choice of chicken, pork, or various seafoods. the menu is dominated with taco, roti, and bolillo possibilities, but there are many other entree options, and it took a fair amount of time to parse through the data and come to a final decision. also their food is fairly cheap, everything we got was less than $10 per item. the chef and management are really on to something.
-Roti - w/ cuban chicken, Jamaican curry, small salad + 1 side. the "roti", or flour tortilla, is very good, and this is basically a GIANT burrito with rice, choice of meat, and choice of curry inside. while the chicken was a bit dry and the burrito overall was dry and could have used more curry (which was delicious), it was still very good, very filling. my side was squash casserole, which was super cheesy but good.
-Rotisserie chicken - w/ habanero apple butter, cornbread + side. it was really good and the habanero apple butter really set it off. side was seasoned green beans, also very good.
-Tacos - tempura chicken and shrimp, +1 side. both chicken and shrimp were good. you can mix n match your meats and your salsas. fresh made flour tortilla was tasty. roasted potatoes as side were really good.
inside decor is definitely plaza midwood-y, very artsy, sometimes frightening, sometimes confusing. custom made tables and benches, and strange mobiles decorating the ceiling. very unique in the style that we all know and love about that small strip of Central Ave.
bottom line: in a month, after they have gone through puberty and worked out all the operational kinks, this place will be 5 star worthy. i will definitely be going back.
