After getting in touch with the owners of the property, they allowed us to keep the sun shade because it didn't pose a fire hazard, it wasn't directly connected to the roof. Any shade or tarp connected to the roof pose a fire risk. ( the sun shade were attached to the building using steel links and attachments and not ropes) There was one apartment that had a tarp over their patio and so they were grilling and the tarp caught fire and burned two apartments in that unit.
