La Petite is owned by hard-working husband and wife team from France. The food is wonderful and the restaurant reminds me of something you would find in Europe. Unfortunately the service was REALLY lacking.
My partner had been lusting over French food since he saw a re-run of Julie & Julia on TV. After reading the glowing review in Phoenix Magazine off to La Petite we were.
It was an average, but busy Wednesday night. We were greeted and seated promptly. The server took our drink orders and came back shortly to get our food order. We both decided on French Onion Soup and wanted to take our time with the dinner order.
When our soups arrived we ordered dinner. I chose Choucroute Royale and he had the Boeuf Bourguignon A L'Ancienne. Dinner came in a reasonable amount of time and the food was delicious! Then the service stopped....
Our server never came back to check to see if the food was to our liking, which it was. We were never offered the opportunity to order additional drinks and we had to ask the bus person to see the menu for dessert options. After about 30 minutes of staring at the wonderful dessert choices our server finally comes by and offers to take our order. By that time we both just wanted to leave and asked for the check. My partner was sorely disappointed, but really did like the food. The slow service didn't happen just to us, it was a common theme for all the tables in our area of the restaurant throughout the night.
In Europe people typically take longer for meals and don't rush in and out like we do here in the US and I appreciate that. In fact, we wanted to take our time with dinner. We just would have liked a little attention after dinner was served.
Will we go back? Definitely, but I hope they improve their service. Based on the other reviews I read we weren't the only ones to encounter this issue.
