  • I've consistently heard good things about Grape Street, and there is always a wait at their Downtown Summerlin location, so when I saw a Groupon, I snatched it up. Really glad I had the Groupon, or I would have left even more annoyed after my mediocre-at best experience last night. It was later when we got there, but still 2-3 hours before closing. It was fairly empty, but the hostess seated us beside the alternative exit. It was great having people going in and out behind me all evening. *sarcasm* I got a glass of wine, and we started out with a tapas platter. Our server brought us a basket of bread that equates to elementary school cafeteria hot rolls, except these were cold and hard. The tapas plate was okay- 4 olives, 3 wonton type things I'm guessing were the "goat cheese cigars" - I was expecting little rolls of herbed goat cheese..these honestly tasted like pizza rolls. There were also 3 meatballs, four pieces of toasted Italian bread, grilled eggplant, tatziki, and a bulb of roasted garlic. Not horrible, not mind-blowing. Despite it being slow, the salads we ordered for our entrees took quite a while. When I asked for a description of "The Summerlin Salad" it was described as "a bed of greens, with grilled chicken, avocado, tomatoes, red onions, and grilled squash." Okay- that sounded nice and summery, I got that. My husband got the chopped salad...I should have also gotten the chopped salad. Now let me offer the disclaimer that I don't mind paying $20 for a good salad. What I do mind paying $20 (well, $19) for, is a lump of shredded iceberg lettuce, ice-cold-under ripe tomatoes, 3 thin slices of avocado, a scoop of chick peas, a scoop of black beans, some undercooked butternut squash, and 6 tiny strips of chicken breast. It was like something a "sandwich artist" would make after he made someone a $5 foot long. Seriously the worst salad I've ever eaten. I don't send food back ("Does that look like spit to you?") but I almost made an exception last night. We didn't stick around for dessert, and luckily the $50 groupon covered both our salads and appetizer, leaving just the two glasses of wine...the high point of my meal. The staff was nice enough, but I doubt I would come back, at least to this location. Seriously, shredded.iceberg.lettuce.
