  • After a few straight days of eating pretty poorly, the fella was craving a healthy meat-less meal for breakfast. A quick yelp search for healthy food with gluten free options led us to Pomegranate Cafe. I had a few of their desserts at Sips and Sweets last year, but had never made it out for a full meal. Tucked away in a shopping plaza, Pomegranate is shockingly spacious. They have a good sized patio that allows dogs, with big roomy tables. At 9am on a Sunday, it was pretty full but not crowded, and the handful of open tables meant we didn't have to wait to be seated. Walking in, the hostess stand is to the right hand side just inside the door. It makes for a little bit of an awkward situation when there are more than two parties waiting to be seated, as there's not much waiting space. The hostesses seemed a little disoriented and scattered, but after a few minutes we were sat and waters (with cucumber!) delivered. Our server also seemed a little bit flustered, but came over to take our order pretty quickly. I opted for the Avocado Sandwich with Farm eggs (+$1), and the dude had the Sunshine Wrap in the green collard leaf (he can't have gluten) and the rainbow juice. My avocado sandwich was great; all of the flavors played together really well, and in my opinion, sprouts are grossly underrated. My chief complaint about the sandwich was the bread. While it was DELICIOUS--seriously, I love any and all bread, but this was top-notch--it wasn't a hearty enough bread to hold the weight of the sandwich. I ended up abandoning and deconstructing it because the pesto was exploding out of the bread. Plus, while very yummy, this amount of pesto really just wasn't meant to be spread directly on an already weak bread--spread that love between the eggs and sprouts, yo. Super tasty, but not structurally sound. But I cannot fault them for my own sandwich neuroses, I fully realize that I have some irrational hangups. The fella said his wrap was really tasty, but had a similar problem with the wrap's ability to contain the innards. The rainbow juice was excellent. After enjoying our meal, we took a stroll on over to the dessert counter so the fella could pick out some treats; dairy free, gluten free treats are pretty hard for him to find, so he jumps at the opportunity every chance he gets. We were waiting quite a while before we were helped, and then the employees helping us seemed a little... indignant. We ordered one of the snickers bars, which was clearly labeled in the case; it was very poorly explained to us that what was in the case were actually almond joys, and snickers would not be ready today. That's fine, we weren't upset and we weren't looking for an apology or anything, and totally understand that this kind of stuff happens. But the perceived annoyance towards us was a little off putting, when we were just trying to pick a couple things up and head on our way. The whole process probably took 15-20 minutes. Overall, food was excellent but a little pricy. Service could use a bit of help. We'll probably be back, but hope the dodgy service this go-around was just a fluke.
