| - I was thrilled to hear that a new, independent coffee shop had opened up just down the street from my office. After learning that one of their specialties is my favourite morning beverage of all time (mocha!) and that they also serve freshly baked pastries - I knew that I had to check this place out.
This café is located on street level standing prominently at the corner of Yonge and Temperance (just past Adelaide on the north west side). From the outside, the restaurant looks like a classic gourmet coffee shop and definitely suits its name and location. Inside the décor is very modern and clean, with plenty of seats available for patrons to sit and enjoy their beverage or muffin. I was immediately greeted by friendly baristas offering their good mornings and assistance while wearing their charming old school gingham shirts and vests. Sitting in the display cases near the cash register was a decent selection of delectable looking snack items such as croissants, muffins, and quiches, enticing me to fulfill all my breakfast cravings.
I ordered a mocha and a mouth watering double chocolate chip muffin (apparently a popular item on the menu). It did not take long for them to complete my order however it was still fairly early (7AM) which might be the reason why they did not have a big lineup. I enjoyed the mocha tremendously. Its rich chocolate flavor was complemented well with the bitter overtures of espresso, providing warmth and comfort that I desired on that cold and rainy day.
The double chocolate muffin was exactly what I was looking for. It was still warm when I picked it up to eat, indicating it was baked fresh that day! I did not find it to be too sweet and the muffin base was incredibly moist with dark and white chocolate chips sprinkled throughout each bite. It is definitely a chocolate lover's dream and something I would recommend to those of you in the neighbourhood who have a hankering for something sweet.
Overall, I was very impressed by my first experience at this coffee shop. Another thing I like about this café is their business hours. I noticed that the few independent coffee shops in the financial district are only open during the hours that I am at work so I was really glad to discover that these guys were open well before my work day began and close long after my work day ended. I was also blown away by the excellent customer service, efficiency of the staff, and the quality of the products. The prices are competitive to other "high end" coffee shops in the area but in the end what distinguishes each café from the other is the overall experience. I would certainly choose to come here again over other cafés in a heart beat.
