  • Do shitty property managers work for excellent apartment communities and excellent property managers work for shitty apartment communities??? Can someone tell me this? So my husband and I just left this place last month and our experiences there have been.... well.... interesting. Pros: 1. Mike and the rest of the staff are great! Extremely responsive, friendly, and genuine. Never had any issues with them. The Easter Egg Hunt was cute. 2. Maintenance is on point with providing service. I call them and the next minute they're at my place resolving whatever issue(s) I had. 3. Location, location, location. I mean this place is in the heart of South Park. We were right across the street from B&N, Earth Fare and other restaurants. On the other side of the street was SouthPark Mall. How convenient. Whole Foods was close by. Starbucks. My job and my husbands was a short drive away and so was my daughters daycare... well until we had to move her to a new one. Which was one of the reasons we moved. To be closer to her new school. 4. Safe. My car was "broken into" but that was my fault cause it was unlocked. Other than that, there weren't any issues in the area or surrounding areas. Our neighbors were always home and they knew our faces, so for some reason I feel like they knew what was up. I feel like there were eyes all over the place because my packages were left right in front of the door, sometimes all day, yet they were still there when I returned home. It's nice to have a ton of traffic in the area to kind of look out for shifty behavior. That's more than I can say for the place we live now. (more on that after we move out... next year) Cons: 1. Our unit was horrendous. I mean this place was built in the 70's so I wasn't expecting a palace; however, the floors creaked. And when sleep training a 1 year old, this doesn't go over well when she hears everything. We have outlets that didn't work. I had maintenance come and they fixed them but they went out again. I didn't have the time to have them come out. I like to be at my place when people come to my apt. Our faucet in the kitchen dripped all the time. Maintenance came to fix it once, but maybe 3 months later it started dripping again. Luckily we didn't pay a water and sewer bill. (maybe they did this on purpose) 2. Old appliances. I had one big eye on the stove and the oven is extremely small. So Thanksgiving dinner was a struggle. Our dishwasher didn't work when we moved in and was replaced with an old dishwasher that kind of worked. We never felt our dishes were truly clean. The fridge was old as shit. 3. It is built in the 70's so it does not have an open concept. Of course I knew this before moving in, but didn't really think it would be that big of a deal. I know better now. 4. Parking: A lot of people have big SUV's and the spaces seemed pretty tight. My husband and I have SUV's, so 4-5 SUV's parked close together is extremely uncomfortable when attempting to take your toddler out of the car every day with a big pregnant belly, and you have no room. 5. You can't see around corners when driving. So with people walking the street, you have to drive extremely slow. Barely any sidewalks. 7. Last but not least (this seriously pushed us out): BUGS! Let's go down the list: Carpenter bees right above our door swarming in the summer, ROACHES when we first moved in up until maybe the last 2 months of us moving out. And I mean from baby roaches to grandfather roaches. 2 mice, 2 slugs, ladybugs, 2 hornets, a wasp, a bee and partridge in a pear tree. We had it all baby. We were living in Jumanji (the new movie with The Rock in it). For the longest time there's been talk of tearing down the units to build up a community more fitting for the area; however, I don't see this happening anytime soon. Final thoughts: Do not get a townhome should you choose to live here. And if you have more than one kid think twice. If I had to do it all over again I would have still chosen this place. However, I would have chosen an apt instead of a townhome and I would have gotten a cat if I knew about the mice issue (our neighbors had one).
