| - In the nursery rhyme "Simple Simon", the pieman is quite stingy when it comes to letting Simon taste his wares, demanding a penny.
But there's no need to pull out your wallet at Simple Simon Pies, a mainstay at the Currie Barracks Farmers Market, as their liberal free sample policy is almost insisted upon by the smiling staff who greet you. Simple Simon serves up a wide variety of fresh and frozen, sweet and savoury pies, including many exotic flavours you don't see everywhere.
I selected the Jamaican Beef Curry pie to sample, and I was hooked. It had a great spicy kick to it, and it was surprisingly filling - alot of flavour in that little 4 inch pie, and for only $3. My lady chose the strawberry rhubarb cheesecake, and let's just say we're clearing a place in the freezer to make room for the dozen or so she intends on buying next weekend. The cheesecake was light and fluffy, but still dense enough to give you that real cheesecake flavour. Their fruit mix on top is always a winner, and tastes great in their regular fruit pies, too - they use only fresh fruit and don't use too much sugar, which I appreciate.
