  • I have lived at this property a short while and like it so far. It is a nice property located right next to the Loop 202 freeway (very slightly north) on a bus line and close to Maricopa Medical Center and Sky Harbor Airport. Originally built and managed by Gray Clow Residential (formerly known as Gray Olsen) Monterra was managed for quite a few years by Sares-Regis. A new management company based out of state named Weidner recently acquired and now manages the property. It's made up of 258 apartments in 8 separate buildings. The property is about 10 years old and starting to show its age a little quicker than some properties that were built at the same time or earlier, which I find a bit worrisome but it's in good shape nonetheless. Though I can't help but think that the lot this property was built on was really made for an apartment community that contains fewer apartments thus allowing more living space per apartment. But that's just me. There's a pool, resident clubhouse and fitness center. A the time of this review all but a few of the staff members are new and have been at the property less than 3 months, but are friendly and customer service focused and intent on keeping this property well-managed. The maintenance staff is nice, efficient and does what it can to keep the apartments livable and the property presentable. My only complaints at this point are dog owners that don't pick up after their dogs and the seemingly endless sea of cigarette butts you'll find on the stairs, walkways and on the ground, as not all (but most) of the apartments have private patios. Noise is not too much of a problem but you can clearly hear people's front doors slamming shut (the front doors have mechanisms that allow them to close on their own). The apartment was not as clean as I would've hoped. The paint looked new but the carpets looked worn down and probably should have been replaced as opposed to just cleaned. I also had some maintenance issues that were quickly fixed after I notified the office. They strive for a 24 hour response to maintenance issues here which is encouraging. The apartments are small and compact and there is not much in the way of closet space, but it is very nice for those that prefer a cozy streamlined lifestyle. All of the standard appliances are present including washer/dryer, microwave, dishwasher, etc. The master suite has a walk in-in closet and most have sliding doors that lead to the patio. It is a gated community that has courtesy patrol and bright light fixtures all throughout the community. The area is not exactly the prettiest, but is safer than many other areas in Phoenix. I wouldn't advise leaving the community on foot at dusk or after dark as the neighborhood is rather sketchy. Each apartment has an assigned parking space or space in a shared garage, but the garages are a bit small and if you have a mid-sized car or SUV you'll have to reverse a few times before you can fit your vehicle straight ways comfortably in the somewhat narrow space allotted. There are some guest parking spots but not as many as one would hope but more than in some other apartment communities. The residents here seem friendly and are polite. One observation I've made is that many people here seem to be blue collar or service industry workers. You'll be hard pressed to find white collar professionals residing here (if that makes a difference in where you choose to live). I would recommend Monterra if you enjoy economical, cozy city living.
