| - We ventured to Butter Avenue on a whim when a food magazine brought them up as one go-to dessert spot. It's located at a pretty decent spot with other shops around. This store has two floors, one for the ordering of pastries and downstairs for the washroom and seating area.
The downstairs sitting area has cushions. It had a nice wall decor and pleasantly quiet setting for couples or even families and friends to relax. The service was also good as the staff would bring your food down for you.
We ordered a box of six macarons to try: earl grey, chai latte, almond brûlée, houjicha (roasted green tea), dark chocolate, and lychee raspberry. Plus an additional earl grey mini tart hehe. Even when we told them sit-in instead of take out, they would still place all your macarons within a box.
Overall, the macaron shells were baked nicely but the difference we found compared with Nadege is that Nadege is more chewy yet the flavour is relatively less strong, and the shells is thinner. Butter Avenue's filling, however, is more creamy and smooth.
1. Almond brûlée - Strong almond flavour and smooth cream filling.
2. Chai latte - Recommended and a 'must get' if you like chai latte. It tastes exactly like the flavour of hot drink sold at Second Cup, Aroma, and Starbucks.
3. Lychee raspberry - No hint of lychee but only the taste of some berry mix.
4. Green tea - Another recommended flavour! Strong matcha taste but not overwhelming.
5. Dark chocolate - I wouldn't always go for this as its taste and texture is comparative to eating a bite-size brownie, slightly on the heavier side as a macaron.
6. Earl grey - Another 'must get' flavour with a strong taste, just like what it should be.
The other dessert we tried was an Earl Grey mini tart. The tart was filled with smooth mousse-like contents and the earl grey flavour was super strong. I would say this tart trumps all of the macarons I've had. It was very delicious! Artistically, it was also accompanied with two grapes, two raspberries, and two macarons (chai latte and vanilla). Highly recommended :D
