[Cut cost me $40]
So I came here as I noticed a lot of both my Yelp friends and personal friends come here and I know that they all have gorgeous Asian hair. Kathy came highly recommended so I set up an appointment with her. She greeted me and asked what I wanted to get so I whipped out my iphone and showed her several pictures of the cut I wanted: heavy bang yet still able to swoop, long layers, keep the length of my hair relatively long. Now I was leery as the last time I got my hair cut in August at Kaya Salon I showed numerous photos to the girl there and she cut my hair ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the pictures I showed her. So to further reinforce the style I wanted I verbally explained and sign languaged my wants because by no means was I gonna have another disastrous haircut again. She shook her head with acknowledgment and now this is when trust sinks in...
It was the usual salon routine after the picture showing. Got my hair washed ("'Im gonna wash that man right outta my hair...."). Headed back to her station. Got the cut in progress. Now I'm one of those that watch the cutting intently. It's probably my mild case of OCD kicking in but Homegirl was cutting with confidence. Which made me confident with her skill. We chopped it up a bit with conversation and it didn't seem distracting. I was there for about an hour which is even better because I get so lethargic hanging out at a salon for over an hour and a half. (Yes I GET IT. I have a head full of hair. And quoting Kathy, "You have so much hair it equals five heads! No wonder why that other stylist gave up!")
I guess I've been pampering myself too much going to frou frou salons as I'm accustomed to receiving a bottle of water, or a cup of coffee or tea, maybe even a glass of wine when I check in. I'm used to seeing impeccably clean stations sans culmination of former clients' hair inside the shelves (not implying this was Kathy's station--I just made observations with neighboring stations). I'm also used to getting to check out my cut with a mirror to see the work the stylist just created. Did those things bother me? Slightly but not enough to not make me want to come back. Kathy gave me what I wanted and that's all I really truly want--someone to cut my hair the way I am requesting it to get cut. She's a cool chick too. Being comfortable with your stylist instills the trust factor. With that said, your stylist is one of the most important people in your life especially if you're a Glamorama type chick (btw I got my Glamorama badge checking in here). Welcome to one of my VIP's, Kathy.
