  • Definitely worthy of the sole Michelin star awarded to a Chinese restaurant in the US! Before I came in here, I thought, "How could it be possible for Chinese food to garner the attention of Michelin and be high class and noteworthy?" I assumed only great hole-in-the-walls in San Francisco or New York had amazing Chinese grub. But alas, gourmet Chinese food DOES exist! The decor is beautifully decadent, gilded in gold every inch you see. Service is phenomenal--attentive, polite, unobtrusive, helpful, accommodating. You couldn't ask for more. Tempted to try one of their mouthwatering tasting menus, but feeling gluttonous from our recent overeating adventures, decided against it. Hopefully next time! We started off with the appetizer sampler, which included a BBQ glazed rib, shrimp toast and Alaskan King crab salad--all three absolutely delicious! The rib was juicy, with a hint of sweetness. The shrimp toast was by far the best shrimp toast I've ever had! The salad was stuffed with huge chunks of crab. All the ingredients were fresh and of the best quality--my husband devoured the avocado in it and he hates avocado! We also shared a bowl of the vegetable hot & sour soup, which was well-made and heftily laden with veggies. Also to share was the pan-seared striped bass and garlic beef tenderloin--both cooked to perfection! Sides of bok choy and vermicelli noodles were also made with the utmost care, and tasted light and flavorful. No room for dessert unfortunately, but still received a plate of bite-sized sweet treats to enjoy, particularly the almond biscuit cookie and eclair were unforgettable! Authentic and well-made, I'm not sure why this place has low ratings, but I can only assume it's due to the high price.
