  • Was road tripping through and this festival just happened to occur at the same time we were driving past so had to stop by. They don't have anything like this in VA so I was excited. Came mainly for the food. Was impressed with all the dim sum offerings. Food was good but not great. I think I might have gotten a better bbq pork bun at the bakery tent but oh well, still enjoyed it. The yum yum sticks (what seemed like mini meat egg rolls) weren't even crispy but the other two egg rolls we tried from other vendors were crispy. I had also beef noodles that reminded me of pad see ew but they were quite greasy and needed flavor. The best boba from Koko bakery wasn't best at all. Had the watermelon flavor and expected it to be fresh juice at $4. It wasn't fresh juice and looked more like a pepto concoction. Boba quality was good though. Wish I had gone for something else like a simple can of grass jelly. Wished there were more dessert choices even though I was stoked about the bakery tent (koko bakery goods looked like mostly bready desserts). I was craving Asian flavored ice cream but wasn't in the mood for shaved ice cream. The tents with goods for sale didn't really entice me. The shops inside the plaza had really cute stuff and lots of Hello Kitty fare. The grocery store attached was pretty cool and even had a bakery case. They had premade food for sale at the grocery entrance. Was on the way to the free parking area but couldn't get there because of road closures so parked at a $3 lot nearby. Saw a white guy perform martial arts on stage when we first got there, haha. Didn't notice any sumo wrestling so we must have missed it. We came on Sunday around 3pm and left about a couple hours later. I thought perhaps since it was the tail end of the festival there wouldn't be too many people but the place was packed. Lines for food didn't take long at all. Getting a place to sit and eat in the main food area was a challenge. The food truck lane had like 2-3 trucks and one sold almond milk, which I thought was amusing. I thought they should be selling soy milk instead. Glad that this Asian festival exists!
