| - Came here for the first time since Monte Carlo changed to Park MGM during the past weekend for my friend's birthday. He had gotten a room for a night during his birthday weekend. I had met him at the pool as soon as I had arrived. Complimentary towels at the entrance after you are checked by security for a room key.
There are two main pools with a jacuzzi. The pool area sits to the northwest of the hotel, surrounded by City Center on the north end with monorail station, the hotel itself southwest of the pool, and another building to the west (unknown what its for. maybe a convention center?) We originally started at the north pool but it soon got shaded as the sun dropped a bit behind that unknown building. We had migrated to other chairs and went in the south pool. Both pools have "reservable" lounge chairs in the pool but most said reserved and unused. I feel like these should be first come, first serve with a few for reservation. There was a water station by the entrance to the pool that is complimentary for guests. Water wasn't cold though.
We had went up to the room afterwards to change. The room was "newly renovated". Instead of having a bed on a perpendicular wall to the window, the bed faces the window, with the back of the bed against the wall of the bathroom. There is only 1 main light in the room over the couch area that has a electrical wire running across the ceiling and down the wall to a switch. Not sure if they were lazy or part of design, I would have preferred the wires to be hidden, especially after a renovation. Bathroom was simple but small. Weirdly configured as the toilet was mildly indented in an alcove like area by the tub/shower. The safe was in the wall by the door. Interesting design as this prevents the safe being removed easily but its out in the open, which makes it a battle between if its safer or not
As we left, we had noticed the door didn't close well. The latch did not completely go into the designed hole and couldn't lock the door without pulling on the door and lifting until you hear a click. Unfortunately, this was mildly a pain so had my friend call front desk and get a new room. Fortunately they had little resistance and got it changed easily. They even changed the key card access electronically so we didn't have to get new ones. We walked straight to the new room and settled in easily.
Overall, service was great in terms of getting the rooms swapped out. How it looked after renovations versus before, I don't know how much they actually did. The hallways were a bit dim. Otherwise, it doesn't seem much actual renovations have been done, besides the outside.
