rev:text	Soul is a funky, fun little gastropub located on the second floor of an old brick building on east Central Avenue. It features an eye-popping menu ranging from wings to skewers to sushi, all executed with a careful hand and quality ingredients. We visited on a Sunday evening after a Panthers game and it was fairly well packed including the outdoor patio space. I can say that the food here justifies any wait you may encounter. Our selections included the grilled caesar, which comes out on a lightly charred leaf of romaine lettuce. This was quite flavorful with its seasoned croutons. The pork belly pita was served with some watermelon salsa and red onions and was quite delicious. Sushi items were masterfully prepared; we enjoyed our California roll and the lightly tempura fried tuna and salmon sakana roll. My one disappointment was the highly anticipated pork belly tacos. The presentation has three large cubes of pork belly glazed in a sweet Asian-inspired sauce topped with three cubes of watermelon. This is somewhat unwieldy to eat but unfortunately, my pork was slightly overdone so it wasn't my favorite item on the menu. One shining highlight was our chocolate bread pudding dessert. Rich but not overly sweet, our baked pudding was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and served with a large scoop of pistachio ice cream. Service is exceptional here from the maitre d' to the wait staff and bus boys. I felt very welcome here. It's busy often from what I gathered from the staff and doesn't accept reservations, although I was able to put our party onto the waitlist through Yelp. We didn't have to stand very long to get seated once we arrived. If you're looking for an excellent meal that's a bit offbeat and eclectic, this is the place you've been looking for. Recommended.
