  • I just tried this once to see how it was and seriously feel no need to go back. $8.99 for lunch and $13.49 for dinner which you will never see posted on their webpage. The novelty of the whole place is what must bring people in the door. There was a place in Squirrel Hill a few years back that let you pick your meat and vegetables for a stir fry and they had since closed up and became the Silk Elephant. I couldn't really see a point in tipping a waitress when the setting is very informal and you are basicly doing all the work. They bring you an empty bowl when you sit down and then your rice and drink if you choose to order one. In my opinion if everything were like Chipotle where you get your own drink and no need to tip someone all the better. I guess I am just a cheapskate but when you are eating this kind of food you really don't want to spend that much cash as a whole. If we had a Pei Wei here in Pittsubrgh then there really would not be much need for a place like BD's. I noticed the onions were cut up all half assed where they leave the core at the end in there and don't care that it is all clumped up and stuck together. One of my pet peeves. Not sure what the draw is here getting your food cooked on a dirty grill by a teenager who would rather shoot the breeze than check to see if your food is burning. Watching him turn and chop my food (loosing a few select pieces of meat into the spill well during the process) with what looked like two filthy sword like utensils was not very appetizing at all. I think when someone else came up behind me and he scraped the grill shooting black carcinogenic ash into my stirfry was the final straw that made me not want to go back. I chose a mixture of about 5 different sauces that completely dried up once poured over my food on the grill. I couldn't really tell what it tasted like since it was so dried out and full of black specs of charcoal. If you want something similar and willing to pay the asking price of $9 for lunch, just go to a good Hibachi Grill somewhere where you get a free entertaining show by a real chef. If that's not for you either I suggest one of the better Chinese buffets around town and pay $7 instead and get all you can eat along with salad, fruit, cookies and ice cream.
