Went with a meetup group to this place. It's so small, only a local would notice it. I'm really glad I went. While it seems to take forever to get meals, it seems because they really put a lot of care into the cooking and presentation of the meal. For a little place, they don't just throw the food on a plate, but present it with rice molded in pyramids or hemispheres; appetizers can be multilayered in cylinders...all colorful and super flavorful. But a number of the dishes do rely heavily on rice. The one I had, which was basically rice with brown sauce and mushrooms and beans with a few other veggies, had the unique taste that the rice seemed crispy on top, like it had been run through the broiler. I think it is these touches that may help take time to get the food.
But the waitstaff is friendly and was more than willing to make suggestions to those at our table that knew nothing of the cuisine.
Try the non-alc Peruvian drink...it is delicious, with a nice taste of cloves.
I like the unique flavors and generous portions and very reasonable prices. Just don't expect to be in and out. Good place to come with others to pass the time and chat. I'm putting down "NOT good for kids"...because I don't think they'd have the patience.
