  • As far as Sam's Club stores go, this one is a toss up. You'll probably be able to find what you need as long as you go in there expecting customer service to be minimal. The last couple of times I've been here have left a lot to be desired. About a week ago I came in for two office chairs and a couple of things from the deli/bakery. Found the aisle with the office chairs and while me and my girlfriend were trying a couple of the 'demo' units out, two Sam's Club associates walked down the aisle to tell us they were about to close the aisle to pull pallets down from above. I told them I wanted to grab two of the office chairs and they both just looked at each other in silence, then back at me... not offering any help just looking at me as if to say "I don't care, we need to close this aisle down..." So I rushed up to the front, grabbed a flat cart while my girlfriend dragged the boxes to the end of the aisle, and ran back to get the chairs. By the time I got back they had already roped the aisle off. Put off by the whole thing, I mozied over to the deli, grabbed a couple of things, and made my way to the registers, which were backed up 5-6 people per register. I noticed that one self checkout was free so I go to it to ring my stuff up. Apparently something was wrong because everyone was trying to get their membership card to scan and everyone was getting an error. 6 self checkout registers and not a single associate monitoring them. Me and another club "member" started waving towards the other registers, trying to get someone's attention, to no avail. After about 5 minutes an associate walked by that was quick to tell us he "doesn't work registers" but would get someone. Again, 6 customers waiting. After about 10 minutes or so we're all finally allowed to scan our products. I've ran across managers a couple of times in the past and I guess it's true that leadership reflects attitude. I've talked one named Chris and asked him if he could help check if something was in stock and he just told me it was out. Ten minutes later I see the item I was asking for up in the "sky" in on an overhead bunker. The other handful of times management has just seemed too rushed to care about member issues and more concerned with running around stocking aisles. I guess if this was a Walmart this type of customer service would be expected, but for a place where you pay for the privilege to shop, it doesn't seem like a lot to expect a hint of courtesy when employees are interacting with their members. Costco isn't too far away in Matthews and when my membership expires I'll be considering them as a Club/Warehouse alternative.
