| - Car trouble sucks. What's worse is finding a place to fix it. Where to go? Who to trust? What's being fixed? And how much?!?
This review is how trying to save a couple bucks costs you at the end.
So my buddy's car started making this weird sound. No big deal. Then it started sputtering. Ok, now it was serious. First, we checked the Internet to see what could be wrong: it might be the gas filter. Cool. So we got the filter changed at some place. A day later, it started to sputter again. Back to the Internet: no help this time.
So we talked about taking it to the dealer? But the dealer is a rip off so we decided to give Pep Boys a try: their diagnosis was the distributor cap. It didn't sound too costly, so they repaired it. However, the car started sputtering again.
My buddy ended up going to the dealer: their diagnosis was the whole distributor need to be replaced. Fine. They really fixed it, and now, the car runs fine.
Later on, a friend told us that most the people who work here are straight out of high school and are only here to get some experience before going to a real garage.
Recap:
Filter change, diagnostic work, faulty repair almost cost almost as much as getting it fixed at the dealership.
If we only knew a mechanic in Vegas, we could have saved a whole lot of time and money.
